Jimny Spot Lights was created by oakenraptor
Hi Guys,
Me and my little brother have just got ourselves a Jimny for some off road adventures. Anyways I'm going to be wiring up dome spot lights to my roof and was wondering if I have the wiring down. I have attached a pic of what I am planning to do and was wondering if someone could cast an eye over and let me know what they think? The reason for the two switches and relays is the spot lights are angel eyes and I want to work them seperatley. Also switch I am fitting is an on-off-on So I can have them on off and on with side lights and main beam.
Also this is the first jimny I have had, Had a discovery in the past, and I am unsure where to start with the modding. Anyone got any tips? I wan to start off doing tyro trials and eventually end up doing RTV's.
Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks
Tom

Hi Tom. I started modding mine with the tried and tested lift kit, bumpers, winch and tyres first. Havent fitted any lights yet although there are plenty of threads on here on how to wire them. My next project though is a rocklobster and some underbody protection. Just a note but if your aeriel is goosed like most on here some people use this route to pass up the cabling for the light, saving you from drilling holes in the roof. Welcome to the site mate.

I am not very good with wiring diagrams, so I'm not saying your diagram is wrong, however I am struggling to understand what you are doing with the feed that energises the relays after the relays as I am understanding that to be also operating your warning lights when the lights are off.
Like I say, this could be my lack of understanding of diagrams, not what you've drawn. You obviously understand diagrams so you'll see if I'm talking out of my bottom!
Maybe some of the sparkies on here can help?
What I would look to do though is to use the side lights and main beam existing power to energize your relays and thus switch them and run new lives through the relays to the new lights, so there will be two new lives to each light, fused separately according to their draw but sharing an earth.
You already have a lights on warning buzzer for your lights on the Jimny and a main beam warning light on the dash.
If you want the ability to switch these new lights off independently, just switch the energising feed to the relays, but when I had driving lights I didn't worry as when I had main beam on I wanted all the light I could muster. Your angle eyes won't harm anyone else so what's it matter if they always come on with your side lights?
One point to note is I am led to believe that the lights on Jimnys are switched on the negative side, so your switching relay will need to have a permanent live and the light's earth will earth the relay energizer. Check this with a test lamp to ensure it is true as I've not needed to do it myself to confirm it.
Hope this helps.
