Hi, I have an SZ4 40k miles in good condition full service history etc. Been offered a £5699 cost to change to a new SZ5. Any thoughts as to whether that is a reasonable proposition?
Thanks

If it is in budget then yes why not. An sz5 is always going to command a good premium.

Is the trade-in a gen3 manual, gen3 auto, gen4 manual, or a gen4 auto? New SZ5s don't exist in Europe, so we need more info.

Sorry, put the wrong info in. The new car is the commercial, manual, the trade in is the Gen 4 SZ4 manual

So you’re looking to trade in a Gen 4 SZ4 for a new commercial Jimny? First thought is why? It’s the same car minus the rear seats and on top of that the commercial will command higher insurance and road tax. Long term your SZ4 is probably worth more because it’s got the seats and cheaper to insure & tax. Unless you’re looking to put the car through a business then I can’t see it being worth it.

I hope you have missed a digit out of the Gen 4 SZ4 trade in value of £5,699? I am not sure what year it is or condition but I would have expected it to be worth closer to £15,699 as a trade in.
When it goes on the forecourt it will be closer to £17,000 - £19,000 again depending on age and condition.

I think it's rather finely balanced. The LCV is just an SZ4 without back seats, so it's not an upgrade as such - you are just losing 40,000 miles and getting higher VED (I found insurance was absurdly cheap for the LCV).
If you can get a better colour and (of course) a car with no rust and no wear, it may be worth it to you. If you are tall, the LCV bulkhead will need to come out to achieve a good seat position, and that means taking out a lot of expensive parts that you've paid for. Unless you like sitting bolt upright, 5'10" is about the limit.

Oh yes, just re-read it. I suppose that is probably about right. Not sure I would go for it, but then he might not need a car and might be VAT registered, so that would make perfect sense.I think he means £5699 + the SZ4 to do the trade for the new car

If your current example is a bit tired, worn or you can get some kind of tax benefit/VAT back. Then I can see that might also make sense.
On the flip side however, if yours is tidy with no issues. It will cost you essentially £6k to end up in exactly the same vehicle minus rear seats.
I don't think anyone here is qualified to say if it is a good deal for you or not.

I suppose on the one hand you are saying that for just under £6k you can 'buy' a brand new Jimny. Although you may want to check what WBAC are offering as a comparison for the trade in value. Thanks all, yes it is SZ4 +£5.699 in return for the LCV

They improved the offer to £5,000 cost to change. Stated VED for the commercial is £180, need to check that.
