Replacement wing mirror hinge mechanism

hi all,
the right side wing mirror of my 2007 Jimmy (heated mirrors version) has broken off today, however, there is no damage to the actual mirror, nor the mount on the car. the damage is in the joint/hinge inside the mirror to make it move. it seems someone has fixed it before and replaced the core, which has now snapped. the cost to replace the whole unit is quite a lot, and the part is hard to find. I wondered if anyone knows if I can just replace the hinge? or any suggestions on how I fix it, as that's my immediate plan for now, before I have the money to, or find, a whole unit to replace.

I have attached an image to help explain my situation further!!

If you dismantle the hinge unit - top and bottom units - you may find it possible to glue the two parts together with a central tube that will strengthen the whole. You will need a two part adhesive. Please don't baulk at the idea, it can work, I have done it myself.

^^^^^^ That's a good idea if you can get a tube down the middle. I've used Plastic Padding Super Steel expoxy for several "impossible" repairs and all have worked, so I'll recommend this glue. Still try for the tube though, it's going to provide most of the strength in the repair.
if all this fails I have a spare driver's side heated electric mirror complete from a 2009. Mirror colour matched (grey) plastic cover has a few paint chips and is a little loose at the bottom edge, but apart from these cosmetics fully functional. £25 plus postage UK mainland  only if interested.
