Hi everyone, I just got my Jimny a few weeks ago and I knew when I bought it that the car was stuck in 4 wheel drive and that there was something wrong with (possibly) the switch? It has been manually over-ridded since and is now in 2 wheel but if I was to hit the 4 wheel button it would get stuck again in 4 wheel drive.

I am a 23 year old female who has no idea about cars and I only want to take my Jimny to a mechanic who knows what he is doing when it comes to Jimnys (no expense spared).

Could anyone help me out on what they think the issue might be and who I should go to to get it fixed? I live in Chelmsford, Essex and I am happy to travel.

The car is 2006 Jimny Convertible.

Thanks so much in advance if anyone helps!

Rachael

Hi Rachael, First off, you should NOT drive in 4WD on the road!
Q, when it is stuck in 4WD, is the 4WD light flashing on the dash?
We need to establish whether it is a vacuum or a mechanical problem.
On the brightside you have come to the Best Jimny info site in the UK, a big % of peeps on here have had this issue (including me!).
Someone else with more knowledge will be along soon!

If it is vac pipes, have a look here, there are some decent pics of where to join bits up.

Welcome to the forum. There's 2 alternatives. Either the transfer case switch is goosed or as suggested the disengage vacuum line is compromised. Neither is a very big deal for a garage familiar with the Jimny. Unfortunately I am not local enough to recommend such a garage.

I would think that the first issue is the gear box because even if the vacuum does not work properly the gear box should disengage the front axle.

Of course properly working front vacuum hubs would “cover” the gear box defect by disengaging the front wheels.
