I have a Android head unit built in, but it is just the same as your phone. I have tried Google Maps, okay, but the driving interface isn't as good as I would like so now use Here.

Here allows me to download (via wifi) and use maps offline, great to avoid bills and the guidance screens and voice are quite good. The one thing I really like about Google Maps is the search, it finds everything including shops and POIs, but Here is quite good too. If you are connected Here will give you the traffic jams.

For off road and minor roads I have installed Viewranger with OS maps. I have used Viewranger for walking for over 10 years and was a beta tester when it came out on the iPhone. You can't really use it for general navigation and it doesn't have voice prompts, but if you put your green lane route in, it will show you your position and give an arrow of where to go.

Once installed, people have uploaded lots of green lanes and other 4x4 routes, so you can follow someone elses track. It is free to install, you just buy the OS maps, but it does use Openstreet map as well.

I don't work for them, just I have used it for a long while and was an early customer in the UK. www.viewranger.com/en-gb

Too cartoonish and no satellite images I could find and on the test drive into town it sent me the most interesting way I have used in a long time. Not for me.

The beneift of Waze is thjat it waorks anywhere on the planet, and like many similar GPS Sat/Nav Apps, routing is dynamic.

I love it, i have a integrated Sat/Nav in my car, but this does not WARN me of breaking the speed limit, unlike Waze. I generally use Waze on my iphone and listen using er buds, and use the Sat Nav in my car - then when traffic is bad, choose between Car and Waze as to what route to take, as mostly they are different. Waze knows more!

Waze warns of pot holes, vehicles stopped on hard shoulders, Reports of Police on bridges, all cool stuff. I love it, especally when driving in new "areas"

If you enter road works on Waze it shows you how long they are, I think this is a good touch, I use Waze rather than Google maps now.

Google maps also shows the extent of hold ups be they road works or just traffic it all with the most recent version shows your speed and the limit you are in though occasionally it thinks a motorway through a town is a 30 even though the gantry signs say otherwise. Like I say 90pc of the time I don't have a problem with it but for it's predilection for going down back roads to save time..
