forgive me if I'm being stupid......... :woohoo:

when we had the snorkel fitted the lad put the head facing towards the back of the jim.

when we got home i turned it around making it forward facing as my theory is that it will work as a ram air system forcing air into the engine.

But it then got me thinking.... now that its winter will snow / rain get in and find its way to the air filter / carb causing problems so should i turn it back?

any thoughts would be appreciated

paul

The only time I'd imagine you'd need it as ram air is in high altitudes... They're not overly prevalent in County Durham from memory :D

I run mine forward facing, haven't had any problems driving at speed or off road in really heavy rain. I would only turn it round in heavy snow, as it could fill the air box.

I thought they had drains in the back of the head so raindrops hit the back and drain out rather than going down the snorkel?

Even if it sucked it straight in, you'll never get enough water in to do any damage to the engine, even in the heaviest downpour. At 3000rpm the engine is drawing in nearly 2000 litres of air a minute. Even if 2 litres of water entered in that same minute, it would only be .1% water!

Some folks put water injection on petrol engines to up the power output so i doubt that the volume of water entering a snorkel in rain will hurt!
I recoloured the leather seats on a DeLorean which some Aussie muppet had spent over £70k on, including a water injection system.
There is a theory that a significant proportion of fog accidents aren't due to poor visibility but increased engine power output due to the water content of the air - go figure!

Always have my snorkel facing forward, there may be a small ram air effect at speed :), it sounds better  , and if it is snowing hard enough to fill the airbox then I am having so much fun, breaking down is just an added bonus :woohoo: !
