Is lifting suspension worth it ? was created by Sasquatch
Hi,

I got a standard 1999 Jimny a few months ago, I fitted 195/80/15 MT tyres and have been having great fun in it doing some lanes and pay and play.

Does lifting the suspension make it better off road or is it more for looks. I understand you need to get it up higher if you want to fit big tyres but I am happy with the 195's.

Would the increased suspension travel give better articulation and grip ? or due to the fact I want to stick with the narrow tyres am I better leaving it as it is ?

I am up for improvements if they will help the off road capabilities not worried about looks, but I have been over all sorts of stuff and so far have not been stuck.

Cheers.

The saying goes if it's not broke then........ Sounds like your having fun as it is a lift would give you more articulation so it's up to you have you got a transfer box gaurd??

No, I haven't got a transfer box guard. I take it It's a good idea to fit one.

I have fitted some front and rear recovery points other than that its standard.

Yeah I would recommend one of them and you have some good recovery points so if your happy with the jimny at the moment then leave it at that save your money ;)

I have the same 195 80 muds no lift etc but it does worry me the sound of scraping underneath when I'm in LandRover ruts on pnp sites.
Have a look where the mud collects underneath and you will see the advantage of any lift or bigger tyres.

If it wasn't 90 and disco drivers I reckon we could get virtually anywhere with just a set of muds but its those deep ruts that are the problem

Thanks for the replies.

I am new to this 4x4 thing but really enjoy it.

The Jimny is just a bit of fun second car I purchased that I take out when I can.

As I only paid £400 for it I don't really want to spend loads more than I paid for it on bits that I don't need.

The tyres I put on cost nearly as much as the Jimny !!
