I have been messing about. Picture one is the heat exchanger which I fitted into the heater hose. It is plumbed into the windscreen washer hoses to supply warm water to the screen.

Three 50mm instruments, voltage, water temperature and oil pressure.

This is the thermo-coupling fitted into the top rad hose.

This is the storage box fitted between the seats to compensate for loss of the small box where the new instruments go.

Not a big item, the GEN4 hinge cover only costs a few quid and just clips on.

I am probably not alone, but in lockdown and not using my Jimny much the battery has gone flat twice. I saw this Bluetooth battery monitor from CTEK, called Battery Sense, it stays connected to the battery and constantly measures battery voltage and temperature, then connects to your phone with Bluetooth.

They are not cheap, but what I like about it is that you can have multiple batteries reporting to the same app and as I have two currently under used cars I now have both in the one app. You get the current state and a graph of data, the units store 7 days worth, so plenty of stats to keep you amused on dark nights.

The Bluetooth is good enough to get both cars from the front room, great to avoid a flat battery when you want to use your car. They also market them for motorbikes, I might get one for my old Triumph when it goes back on the road as bike batteries are always going flat due to the small size.

Today I got my replacement/continuation service book from our illustrious leader Martin. My original one only went upto 108k but the new one goes to 144k. So between them I have a quarter of a million miles. So enough for about the first 10 days after lockdown is lifted, I want to go for a drive without any destination so badly!

Still with me, then read on.
I tend to change the oil at half the recommended service intervals, in my opinion clean oil is better than dirty. However since I stopped working for Halfrauds I no longer benefit from colleague discount, so the normal Castrol etc has started to get expensive. So I searched for an alternative and it arrived today, less than 24 hours after I ordered it. It's Mannol oil, a German automotive brand blended in Lithuania by SCT.de. It gets good reviews and meets the highest spec required by the G3 Suzuki jimny (fully synthetic API SL), although like most they do produce higher (SN, ACEA A5 and C1 to C5) for all those picky modern engines with stringent emission control systems.
It's a good price at £35.99 including delivery for 20ltr, so that's £7.20 a service (4ltr), £15 with OEM filter !

It will be another 4000 miles before I am due the next service and I will report back on if the engine sounds any different on cheap none brand oil. If it does not I will continue to use it, if it does my Land Rover can burnuse it

Well it's time to report back after using this cheaper oil.......It's fine, engine is happy and sounds no different, wallet is happy. Recommended for those that are not brand loyal.

Good to know. I use which ever c3 is available in bulk locally. I use c3 on the basis that with my typical annual mileage over specified oil is a reasonable option. Oil is cheaper than engines.
