The ferry from Scrabster has been stopped I hear.

Looks like you will need to travel to Norway or Denmark first and get a boat from there.

Went there in February half term for my bros stag do (all paid for by him, apart from spending money). We hired a super land rover 110 and guides for two days. As the only one in the party with any understanding of 4x4s let alone driving them, i was the driver! The guide picked us up from the hotel and we swapped places once out of Reykjavik. I covered nearly 600miles in the truck and we saw many of the touristy hot spots (no pun intended).

Its a very weird place - few trees and very little snow this winter so everywhere was greenish. The package included lunch on both days and the tour guides (we had two, first was very protective of the truck and wouldnt do anything to extreme, the second allowed a bit more fun, but didn't like me getting airborne :P ).

In terms of suzukis, they see them as toys and laugh at them, (our 2nd guide did when i was telling him about mine), however, they do modify them like the rest of the Icelandic trucks. I've got a couple of piccies of a few vits plus the usual Icelandic ones and will post them these next few weeks - my external harddrive is currently boxed up ready for the house move.

Good thing about Iceland at the moment - the economy is knackered so they're welcoming tourists like nobodys business. Price wise everything is similar to British prices, but anything imported including beer and food is heavily taxed - we found it cheaper to drink the local beers and eat the local foods

Sounds good - road trip anyone? Might need an expedition trailer for the Jimny though, not got a lot of space for camping stuff in there.

yes it has, i have to get the dfds ferry from harwich to esjberg then to iceland,

the smyril line ferry website has a self drive 4x4 holiday on the webpage, it looks like fun.

Cant wait to see your pictures (nelson83)

I was planing to stay in a self cattering lodge in near the south east and trek out from there, but might have to wait abit as my wife is expecting a baby in march and a volvo s40 are rubbish of tarmac

Yessir, I do indeed live in Iceland :)

I'd be glad to give some traveling tips if you'd like, although I doubt you'll have any trouble finding fun roads to drive on as Iceland is littered with tracks and backroads. It pretty much depends on your rig how far you'll get, especially if you come here in march as many of the tougher roads will be covered in deep snow or will be muddier than hell.

But yeah, feel free to ask for any tips :)
