no reason at all that you cant up grade up yours axles lockers are available prob just a rear would be sufficent its not easy doing axle swaps
there are some gusset brackets you can buy cheaply of just fab up your own that will sort the caseing front 1/2 shafts seem to be the weak point however someone on here has just taken delivery of Uprated ones from RS manufacturing rocklobster is a must if running big tyres my advice would be complete it on a budget go out and see what breaks it all has a lot to do with how you drive

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll sit down and have a proper read through it all when I get a chance and try and make sense of it all. I don't really fancy going out and spending £2000 on it for axles, it's really just being built for a bit of banter and see what happens.

I'll need to do some real research and maybe pick a few brains on here.

Surly after upgrading all the axles if he did go down the arb route it would be cheeper to swap axles not counting in the fitting of them

You can change axles but but the choice is a bit limited when it comes to having lockers as standard i opted for G wagon as they had them but dealing with the contra rotating propshaft issue that Mercs went with does take some sorting unless you fit there transfer box as well.

My heads buzzing already! Haha. Think I'll keep the standard axles and mod them.

Today the big chop happened.... A lot of measuring, paint pens, masking tape and a pencil. A grinder and a 9" grinder later, we have this.....

The start...

Then a wee while later...

Then a bit of triming and lining up...

I want to obviously trim the arched for more space, however keeping the starter arch trims to make it look more factory if can be. So a little lining up

Obviously still got a lot of work to do but it's starting to take shape nicely.
