Also making a bull bar - tubular was created by nzJim
Hello all,

I'm in New Zealand where jimny's aren't uncommon but aren't typically modified...

I'm wanting to build a tubular front bar to mount my superwinch in. I'm thinking it will be similar to the xrox style.

Has anyone built one or have any links to previous builds? I've searched for the last 2 nights and haven't found any.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Matt

Thanks Dorfl, that looks real good. I don't suppose you have some close ups of how it mounts / braces to the chassis rails?

The winch I have is too wide to sit between them so it's going to have to sit on top basically, although then it fowls the bar above so I'll recess it down a little...

Can you not notch out the body cross member and reshape it to fit under the member

A good idea and I could but it would compromise it's integrity too much, in my opinion.

No it wont as the chassis will keep the front in line

You could cut it out fit the winch then weld some box section above the winch on to the body to re enforce it

Agreed.
I wouldn't Loose the box section either.
If you want to cut it out. Replace it with something else.

Hi nzJim,

I managed to fit the winch in sitting above the chassis rails but that's with a 2" body lift so it didn't hit the body cross member.. Could be an idea..

BTW I'm in NZ as well so you're not alone! haha.

Where abouts in NZ are you? I'm in Auckland.

g'day Josh, good to hear of another nz jimny! I'm down in chch so not likely to bump into you.

I hadn't thought about doing a body lift... hmm... I'll research that. I'd rather not open up another work front though! My tyres fit fine so I don't quite see the point, it's tall enough as it is.

I can get it sitting a fair way back so it's not the end of the world.

Any other pics of homemade bar work?

Will try to get some pics this weekend. Car has 2" body lift and winch is mounted above the rails. If you can avoid it, I would steer away from a body lift (it raises the center of gravity) :( If you need more clearance, employ an angle grinder and hammer
