Hello

Well, me and the missus performed a 700+ mile round trip from Pembrokeshire to Teeside and back earlier this week to purchase a well modified 1999-vintage Jimny. Drove back all the way on mud tyres (bit bouncy in places) and kept filling up the fuel tank (it's pot luck finding a filling station open in Wales after 9pm and didn't have a jerry can with me!), but managed it back all in one piece.

First Jimny in the family and must say it's a fun vehicle to drive. Previously had a couple of Defenders and much prefer the Jimny. The fuel consumption seemed a bit steep on the motorway (even at a steady 56), but once we hit Wales, the Jimny seemed to like the bendy roads and all the hills.

Only been back a couple of days but so far I've taken the seats, seat belts and carpet out of the rear and those will be off to the tip next week. The floor in the back looks in good condition, but will seal it anyway and throw a rubber mat in for good measure. I remembered to put all the bolts back in after learning a costly lesson in the last Defender - open holes let in water!

Purchased a few items for it so far including a replacement rear door (this one had a heavy spare and a bike rack bolted on and it tore the metal around the one bolt, so that will be letting in water). Will be moving the driver's seat back a little too to give me a bit more leg room.

More soon...

Cheers
Pete

Sorry, I took it all to the tip earlier today. They did look a bit knackered though to be honest.

This is the inside rear after removing the seats and carpet. Not too bad for an 18 year old Jimny!

Will rub down the bits of rust and seal/paint, then throw in a rubber mat.

I would slap a bit of sound proofing down as well.

I am with Dan. A bit of sound proofing makes a world of difference. I just used some carpet underlay under the rubber floor covering. ;)

As it happens, I have to remove some carpet from one of the bedrooms and there is some underlay underneath, which I can use.
