That's interesting. I have to agree. I have often said manufacturers should only do automatics then the roads would be a safer place.

Not where old people are concerned! The number of accidents I've seen caused by old people pressing the throttle instead of the brake & then when it doesn't slow them down they press it harder scares me!

One happened behind me after I re built a car and started the engine for the first time at fast idle for the cam. The bang made me jump as I thought my engine was blowing up in front of me! It wasn't, it was an old dear accelerating her BMW auto into my neighbour's vw bora that had been back from the bodyshop 2 days after the last time!

Another was a mk2 Fiesta shooting across Sainsburys car park crashing into a barrier back when I was a young trolley boy. How it was a barrier not a shopper it hit I don't know!

I think I prefer my old neighbour revving her micra & slipping the clutch to hell and back than her in an auto!

I've heard the excuse from the young 'uns too, in manual. "Ooops, my foot slipped off the clutch". ;)

But we all know that's a fib. They just couldn't think of anything better. At least if your foot were to slip.of the clutch you'd only lurch forward a foot or so, not scream down the road at full throttle with kick down!

Hey - I didn't say what I regard old to be did I? How old are you and I'll tell you if I regard you to be old?!?
