Just polished my headlights. They were very dull. Took only 30 seconds with a paper towel. I used polishing fluid for dental applications, but I read (white) toothpaste does the same (maybe it takes a little bit longer and may require more polishing afterwards).

Good result,same results can be achieved with any sort of cutting polish and if the headlights are that bad you can use 1500 wet and dry first.
