My car came with pro-comps on and they had clearly been on the car a while and 2 or so years later they are still on, still working fine with no rust or scoring on the shafts, no leaks and they've never had boots on.
So I would go with the advice of leaving them off.
I can imagine that moisture would stay in those boots for a long time and removing them to clean them must be a ball ache.
