Hi all. The power steering pump on my 2002 Jimny has had a very gentle leak from the day I bought it 10 years ago ( has always got through an mot each year with an advisary for it) and now the fluid level has just dropped below the min mark so needs topping up or changing. What type of fluid do you guys recommend I buy and should I try an flush it all out or just top it up ? cheers

Ordinary ATF- Dexron II or III.

I wouldn't bother flushing it out unless you've got water/mud in it at some time.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Not if it is ATF in there like it is supposed to be, no.

I'd be more worried about disturbing the pipes to get the old fluid out causing a leak than topping up causing a problem tbh.

Stick your finger in it and see if it is red, if it is green clean it out as I've only ever seen red Dexron. (Green is the strange fluid that Citroen use in their hydraulics)

The Gen3 handbook says Dexron II or III.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Ok so I bought some red dexron 11 rated ATF and topped up the power steering reservoir. Stupidly I didnt check the colour of the existing fluid first. After topping up with the new red fluid its obvious that what's in there already is green ! I have a oil change syringe, should i suck out the red that hasnt mixed yet and try and get some green fluid or should I let it mix and each week suck out the reservoir and top up until it all turns red after a while ? or have I created a bigger problem.
