Clunk turning right was created by flash-22@hotmail.co.uk
Hi everyone.
I currently have 2020 jimny, in late March for the mot It needed both kingpins replacing. The car at the time had done about 55000 miles which I thought was slightly premature but not a problem. The car has slightly larger tyres than normal at 215/75/15. Ive always had it serviced at the main dealer Colin appleyards in Ashton. After about a week of new kingpins the steering would go stiff about halfway to full lock turning right forward or in reverse. I thought it was a bit unusual but it didn't worsen. After about a month the car would make an almighty clunk after going stiff and turning right.
I then booked it back in at Colin appleyards. I explained to the guy at the desk the problem he rang me the same day to say they couldn't find a problem even though it was obvious. I told him it's definitely happening and to keep checking.
He then back to me and said the mechanic said it was the driver's side front drive shaft. This puzzled me because if I'm not mistaken the front drive shaft only operates when 4wd is engaged. I only use 4wd about 20 miles a year when we have snow. I questioned him and his reply was that you must have left it in 4wd on the road for to long. When I mentioned that it started doing it after having the kingpins were changed he just fobbed me off.
My question is can new incorrect kingpin installation affect the driveshaft or cause this problem and how do I prove it.
Thanks

If they have forgotten to install the outer circlip on the outer stub shaft then the cv joint won't be lined up correctly and will bind like you describe. It's behind the vacuum hub and easy enough to check if you have a e10 torx to undo the hub.

Another possibility is that the vacuum lines have been connected to the wrong way putting one hub is in the locked position.
