I have checked the fuses the bulbs the reverse switch and most of the rear wiring I think it could be a break in a wire somewhere as the last guy tried to wire in a reverse camera and had no idea what he was doing I’m going to have a proper looking and test everything tomorrow in the meantime are there any ideas as to what it might be?

Thanks

What year/generation Jimny is it? Though the obvious suggestion is to check where the loom passes through to the door for fatigue.

I fitted a replacement bumper light lens yesterday to fix the cracked original, and now have a dead brake light on that side.  The wiring doesn't like being disturbed!  Waggling the wiring makes the bulb light up briefly, so the break or short is local. It's going to have to go to an auto-electrician and is, of course, not road-legal, although I think Plod would let me off if I was taking it to a repair shop.  There is also a slight earth fault where the tail lights dim a bit as the indicators flash.

The rear bumper wiring gets cooked by the exhaust silencer so I think I'll ask them to make up a new loom for that part.  Probably quicker than finding the fault and soldering it.

Had another look tonight with a multimeter and found the fault wasn't in the wiring - it was in this truly horrible bulb holder.

Water had got in and rusted the old bulb to the holder.  Pulling out the old bulb finished it off.

Luckily the scrapyard light I bought to replace the cracked lens came with the bulbholders, and the stop/tail holder was a lot better, so I soldered that one to my harness instead.  Et voila.

It's still a bit dicey so I've ordered a new wiring harness.  £30 but still cheaper than an auto-electrician.
