Prop shaft seal? was created by redoregan
Hi, guys.
I'm having trouble with a gearbox oil leak.
I live in the middle of nowhere and the only decent mechanic near me told me I needed a "gearbox seal going to prop shaft" so I bought this: www.bigjimny.com/store/gearbox-rear-oil-seal.html believing it must be what he meant, based on the description, and he literally threw it back at me.
He said it should be the size of a circle you'd make with two hands. The Suzuki rep from the nearest city won't deal with him so I have to get it myself. Do any of you know what he might mean?
Thanks.

That is the gearbox seal, there is no other.
It is inside a larger housing, perhaps he imagines there is a larger seal (there isn't)
If the seal is not leaking then it may be the propshaft itself. They leak from the end cap inside the yoke, epoxy sorts this out.

Thinking about it, perhaps there is a translation issue. Perhaps he means gasket.
There are paper gaskets in some parts of the gearbox case

Looking at your other posts I see you have a Japanese kei version (600cc) which we do not get in the UK. Perhaps they are different

Thanks a lot for the info, mate. Actually I have a Sierra, I was just enquiring about Kei bonnet compatibility. Okay, I think I will just go further afield and find someone else to help me with it. Thanks again. Big help.

Just to follow up on this one, I showed the mechanic the description of the part and he admitted he had never heard of a mini propshaft and accepted he was wrong, so thanks to Mr. Lines, it's getting sorted.
