Fault code 31 - MAP sensor? was created by Leica
Hi,

I have a Jimny from 1998. At idle it runs smooth and fine, but when in motion the check engine light comes on and the motor then hesitates and you notice a lack of power. A garage read the fault code today and and apparently the code is 31. They counted the flashes in some old school way as they said, so they didn't charge me as they weren't sure that it's the correct code. I've done some research and code 31 seems to indicate that there is a problem with the MAP-sensor? Does anyone know if that's a correct assumption?

Regards Erik

OK. Have you tried to fix it or are you considering your options?

The HO2S bank 1 sensor 1 is the one shown in the small pictures. (no2 is further back on the exhaust system). green / blue connector on top of the manifold.
I found one in my garage from a Baleno, works fine. It even had the same connector so plugged right in.

For anyone with a similar problem I thought I should mention that my car is running fine now. I focused my attention at the MAP sensor and released the vacuum hose from the sensor and then drove the car for a couple of minutes. Though not performing the smoothest of runs I noticed the absent of the CEL light. I then reconnected the hose again and the car is now running great.

Most likely something had stuck in the MAP sensor's filter which is located at the other end of the hose. By driving with the hose loose, air must have blown that something clear of the filter and back into the engine. The right thing to do is of course to remove the filter and clean/replace it.

Perhaps you have a newer Jimny? the fault codes changed with the M13A engine.

Some Suzukis and a bunch of motorcycles.
