Change all my gear oils was created by emu88
I want to change my transmission, transfer and differential front and back gear oils.

The manual says API GL-4 SAE 75W-90 for transmission and transfer and API GL-5 hypoid SAE 80W-90 for differentials.
However it does not state whether they should be mineral, semi-synthetic or fully-synthetic, nor if non-hypoid oil is ok to use.

My reverse gear is tough to get in sometimes hence the change of all oils.

So would 3 litres of this be good for the transmission and transfer (semi-synthetic): www.amazon.co.uk/Comma-SXGL41L-SX75W-90-...ords=api+gl-4+75w-90

and a couple of litres of this be good for the differential (mineral): www.amazon.co.uk/Comma-EP80901L-EP80W-90...words=api+gl5+80w-90

OR this semi-synthetic one for the differential: www.amazon.co.uk/Comma-SX1L-SX75W-90-GL-...words=api+gl5+80w-90

The oils you've linked to will all be fine.

Whether you use synthetic or not is up to you. From the factory they will most likely use mineral, as would a garage unless you specified otherwise. Diffs must be hypoid, which EP oils are. Transmission must be gl4 and not gl5.

Thanks Busta. So is Synthetic better than mineral, or doesn't really matter?

So anything with EP in is hypoid?

Ok re the transmission and transfer oils having to be GL4, but on another thread facade wrote "DO NOT use the Comma SX75w90 GL4 synthetic, I have and it is coming out again ASAP" and instead recommended 80w90 GL4 which the manual does not 'highly recommend', though it is written on the temperature range diagram.

They are cheap thanks, but for GL4 they only stock the semi synthetic.

Out of these two which one should I go for for the transmission box and transfer?

www.amazon.co.uk/Comma-SXGL41L-SX75W-90-...ywords=comma+api+gl4
OR
www.amazon.co.uk/Comma-GO41L-EP80W-90-GL...ywords=comma+api+gl4

?

I'm having the same dilemma at the moment!

I was going to use the comma GL4 for my gearbox/transfer box but saw facade's post as above. I did PM him and he thought it wasn't actually the comma that caused the issue.

Another forum suggested Castol SMS-X fully synthetic GL4 (now called syntrans multi vehicle I think) as apparently this improves gear change. You would think a fully synthetic oil would help over semi?
