Jimny clutch adjustment was created by Iain
Can you adjust the clutch on a jimny, I barely have to lift my foot and the clutch is engaged?

Or is it time for a new clutch?

The adjuster is a large ribbed plastic nut that is seized to the outside of the cable where it goes through the flywheel housing.(Underneath the car)
There is also some rubbery thing that stops the nut turning by itself that you have to deal with.

I ended up releasing the cable from the clutch arm: there is a big plastic inspection cover that flicks out so you can get at it, then pulling the cable out of the clutch housing and getting it out the front of the bonnet to get tools to hold the cable and turn the nut.

As the clutch plate wears thin, the release bearing has to move back removing the free play from the pedal, so the cable becomes too short and the nut has to move away from the clutch end to shorten the outer to compensate.

You might find that the nut will simply turn with the cable in place, but not very likely as the cable outer is made of the same aluminium alloy that Landrovers are made of: I think it is called "corrodomatic".

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Just re-read your post. Reads like your cable has stretched, and you have miles too much free play. Check your cable hasn't frayed and stretched out, then you might want to have a look at the pedal end to be sure that the outer hasn't broken through at the bulkhead. Someone on here reported this happening, and they had to weld the pedal housing to fix it.

As I said, as the clutch wears, the biting point moves up the pedal and it will start to slip without adjustment. Yours seems to have gone the other way. Another possibility is the clutch fork worn inside the gearbox at the pivot point, you cant check this with the gearbox still on, so leave it until you change the clutch.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

hi - I am a 50 yr old woman in Hungary ex UK - just went for the hungarian equivalent of MOT about 3 wks ago - now I am experiencing what I think is the clutch slipping - only a few % nothing too bad -yet - so rang the garage who until now I trusted. I am wondering whether they could have adjusted the clutch/cable during the technical in order to drum up business. I cant really afford ca £300 quoted for a new clutch. could you please post a picture of what I should look for to adjust the cable to try and get around replacement? it is 4x4 2004, which i love and need due to steep bank entrance to property, thanks so much for any help.
