Non starting was created by Pip31
Hello, my elderly but much loved 1998 Jimny starts first time every time, except twice now I have started it to move it on the drive. Then next morning it spins over but refuses to fire until much later after repeated attempts. Any ideas please?

You didn't let it warm up properly, no car likes that, probably the plugs got fouled from running on choke.

(If you do this to some performance cars, it is off to the dealer on a trailer for the engine to be stripped down to change the plus  )

Next time wait until it has warmed up before you turn it off.

It is very bad practice to start a car and only move it a few yards, best to push it or leave it where it is.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

That'll be the RX8 then.

Sounds like you flooded it, as Facade has said get it warm before you switch it off

I had this on a micra a few years ago. It was parked in a car park near the entrance which I didn't like so a few hours later I moved it a few yards. Next day I tried to start it and it didn't want to know. I tried the old trick of flooring the throttle but nothing.
I called out the RAC and all he did was remove the fuel injection fuse and it started straight away.
He said he was getting this quite a lot as flooring the throttle didn't work on modern cars as the computer just pumped in more fuel not less air/fuel mixture as in carbs.
Obviously once the excess fuel was used up in the cylinders the fuse had to be replaced for it to run and start again :)

I started off high and worked my way down ever since :-)

Jimnys are prone to this.

If it happens again, open the throttle fully to allow more air in and then turn it over and it will fire. Take your foot mostly off the throttle and it will run roughly but with balancing the throttle it will clear and run ok and idle ok again.

I've not experienced this for some time but I am surprised as I habitually turn it off once it's outside the garage door to shut it. I've put the garage door keys on a carabina now to allow me to detach them from the car keys while it's running.
