My first Jimny was created by Jimbospanner
Hi, after purchasing my first jimny today (an old T reg), on the drive home it started to overheat, I stopped quickly, hope I've done no permant damage.
Once the engine cooled, it was good for another 40 min driving. This has happened 3 times, stopping each time the needle rose above the mid position.
Things checked, coolent level ok, radiator clear
Due to the intermittent overheating I.m thinking it could be a faulty thermostat? Does any one know if I can remove it altogether.
Any other checks? Heater blower?
I've had a look on the search function and none match my symptoms.
Thanks for any help

Hi Jimbospanner. Did you try turning the heater on full with the blower on maximum? If yes did this help to bring temperature down on the gauge ? It could just be a sticking thermostat hopefully which will be easily rectified.

Yes I did, the blower was warm, not "red" hot. I think the temp did go down which would indicate correct flow?
Thanks

Check the drive belt on the fan and water pump , the thermostat can be tested by removing it and drop it in hot water to se iff it opens
Heater should be blowing hot not just warm if your temp is that high

Nice one reaper, sounds like a simple methodical parts testing, along with a good flush of the system.

Wonder if it is the temperature sender giving false reading ? Not one I have come across before. Will have to look further......
