Help Please I’m Stuck

If its on automatic hubs if thers a leek on the vac system it constantly thinks its in 4x4 mode buddy

I have been having a couple of problems since yesterday which maybe related. A couple of times I have taken it out of 4WD (so the light goes off) but is still in 4WD mode (steering feels heavy). The car drives OK and there is no shaking or gear selection problems.

On one occasion I noticed something was wrong when I thought I was in 2WD and the 4WD light started flashing. I pulled over and fiddled with the lever, drove forwards/backwards a bit and it was all fine.

Tonight whilst out its popped into 4WD whilst driving along (the light came on). I started the evening in 4WD, then moved to 2WD once I got out of my road. The only thing I can think of is I need to slam the selector forward to make sure its really engaged

To be honest, if its going to start to mess around, I'm going for manual hubs.

So what makes it undrivable then Tadpole? Is it just your fear it is stuck in 4wd?

If so it sounds like it's not and it's just the switch for the light on the transfer box,, which may or may not actuate the hubs. If the transfer box is in 2wd it doesn't matter if the hubs are locked. I can't be bothered with auto or manual hubs and have fixed hubs.

Get a new switch and I'm sure it will be good again.

I eventually managed to get the Jimmy in the garage intending to try a few of your recommendations.
Having searched the forum & read the manual (unless I missed it) one last go & it’s fixed.

From 4WD, to revert to ‘2 wheel drive high range’ - ‘lift lever & push Transfer Lever forward’ ....... :whistle:
Easy when you know but having very little knowlege re Jimny's, well it's now sorted

Back to the next job on the list, fix the PC black screen syndrome ..
