should i just get a new engine? was created by Cricket
had my jimny to the dealership.. been charged 550 for them to take it apart and diagnose. turns out the head failed. they havent finished writing up a report yet but gave a rough idea of repair : £1300 + any extra parts i might need. ( this price is all just for parts apparently as they are covering the labour in the 550)

so what do i do now how much does it generally cost to get a new engine fitted, i have seen decent ones for around the 3-400 mark.

or now that i know the issue would it be worth getting the repairs done somewhere else bearing in mind id then be paying the labour on top of the parts

just wondering what other people would do in my position. this is my first car (unlucky) so im probably a bit clueless!

Take it to another garage it sounds like they don't want to do the job, rather than say we don't want the job they give you a vastly over priced quote for the work to scare you off.
To fit a second hand engine should be around £100-150 labour at a smaller independent

What sort of mileage has your car done and what year is it :)

Have a crack at it yourself! all you need is to beg/borrow/steal( ) an engine crane.

You can get complete engines on ebay for about £200.

If you love the J then go for it. By the sounds of it, its still going to cheaper than buying a new car; granted more hassle of course.

thanks for the replies guys :)

the actual head has gone i think not just the gasket..which is probably why replacing the gasket twice didnt help haha!
I do love the car , im thinking ill wait to see what they say once theyve finished testing etc then weigh up my options.
Id love for suzuki to do it but i dont think i have a spare 2grand lying about :( so i will probably end up ringing around for a few quotes for repairs as well as an engine swap!
expecting a call today!

ps theres no way i could replace it myself i dont have a garage never mind a winch :P
