Could be a sticky thermo or just need an aux fan as you dont get much airflow going slow offroad

My temp was fine for short journeys, pottering round local - anymore than 7 miles and it kept blowing the rad cap. Swopped the thermostat and rad cap and it was fine again on short journeys, but soon starting blowing again. Local garage suggested either head gasket or water pump but weren't sure, so booked it in at the main stealer. They had it best part of two weeks, pressure tested the head, checked water pump before checking the rad - apparently it was corroding internally and "floaters" were bunging up normal flow - new rad was just under 100 quid from them plus they fitted it too - i aint got time to scratch my ass, let alone fit a new rad - problem solved :-D the guys did say its common for this to happen, and it often happens on longer journeys or off roading as the "floaters" get stirred up a bit more

Cleaning the rad fixed overheating for me, took it out and soaked it in a barrel for a couple of days, lot of crud between the fins, bugger to get out without separating from the cowl. I found laying flat and forcing water down through with a hose was better that power washer, it just destroyed the fins. No evidence of any bits floating around inside.

On the 8th Day God made the LandRover -
On the 9th day he swapped it for a Jimny.
