I have a 54 plate Jimny that the previous owner obviously repaired after an accident.

The airbags fitted (I use the term lightly) are light gray and should be dark gray

Closer inspection of the illuminated airbag light reveals that they are only fitted and not connected as the are obviously wrong for the model. The seatbelts have obviously activated too and are now just retractable seatbelts.

I have seen airbag sets on ebay but never know how they are related to jimy age/model and where the changes occurred. I dont want to buy a set the right colour and find they dont fit/work in my vehicle as looking for a breaking 54 plate is a bit specific!

Has anyone any ideas/knowledge.

Are they straightforward to fit (safety precautions taken as required)?

have you removed the air bags to see if thay are connected as most air bag conectors are the same best thing to do is take to a garage and get it pluged in and see what is at fault that system its not some thing to play with due to being dangous also 9 times out of ten if an air bag has gone off an ecu some times needs replacing

(Closer inspection of the illuminated airbag) what do you mean by this

The airbags are light gray and the trim in the jimny is dark gray!

The leads on the bags arent long enough to reach the plugs on the wiring loom and from memory the plugs look different comnnectors. The idiot obviously bolted in the first couple of airbags he could find.

The seatbelts have activated and have had bits ground off the sides of the reels where the charge would normally fit so they are just basic seatbelts now, not linked to the airbag system at all.

I hope to speak to the main dealer this week to see what registration years my jimny airbags span so I can find the correct fitting replacements. I dont want to spend a load of cash to find my purchases still wont fit!

Thanks for the link, I will have to give them a ring when I finish this block on shift.

I havent looked in detail but there are yellow plugs that I assume attach the bags/pretensioners to the wiring loom or whatever wiring activates them. On the passenger airbag this plug/wire is visible when the glove compartment is open. The two halves of the plug are not compatible in mine!

it just goes to prove that you should never buy a car unseen, based on pictures and information supplied by the seller.

When I purchased it I knew it had had a small front end crash/repair but the way the vehicle was repaired was something else.

In order to obtain a partial refund to cover this from a less than cooperative seller I was forced to contact his local garage that did the MOT and explain that the vehicle was so dangerous my mechanic was about to involve a VOSA inspector. I told him I could fix the issues but it was going to cost money that the seller was not going to refund.

In order to take legal action I was planning on using the VOSA report in court if the seller would not come to the party so maybe he would like to have a friendly word in his ear inorder to make this all go away....

I am told that words and threats were exchanged and my cheque arrived in the post!

The unbelievable thing is that a vehicle with the issues mine had got had passed a couple of MOTs without even a single advisory notice.

The garage was obviously as bent as a seven pound note, putting down a failure as an advisory is one thing. Allowing a dangerous vehicle onto the road is unacceptable to say the least.

The seller had let his mother drive this deathtrap around for the past two years!

I have also learnt that using the same user name on multiple forums while assuring folk that you dont repair crashed vehicles for profit is a silly idea in these times when Google can be a mans best friend (sorry I'm starting to rant)

vosa cant do any thing about the air bag light being on as of yet its not an mot failure and if it had been a recorded crash then it should of had a vic test but that is only to check the cars identaty and also it would have been on the hpi database just because the air bag light is on dont mean its dangerouse as long as the belts work then its just as if you was driving an old mini no airbag or pretensioners was there other thing wrong with the car how long ago did you buy the car cos im shore you can get them done under the sale of good act as it has to be fit for road use unless othe wise stated
