It could be a number of problems.

The Jimny gear mechanism is "remote" ie. it consists of a number of rods and levers to connect the gear lever to the gearbox.

Possible issues:

1. Broken engine or gearbox mount has caused the whole lot to shift slightly sideways so the gear lever is fouling the edge of the transmission tunnel

2. Something has fallen into the top of the remote box (under the lever) or the plastic bits in the remote box have shifted or broken.

3. Something under the car is fouling the remote rods (stick or twig?) or one of the rods has come loose at the joints.

There was a recall on the early Jimnys because the little bolt holding the remote selector together, inside the remote housing, came loose and jammed in some positions.

Helpfully Suzuki made this bolt accessible from underneath the remote housing (the lower cover has to come off) rather than the top

The fix was a stronger bolt, tightened up a bit more

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)
