No. You can get your hands up. The bolt is 10mm or 12mm I think. There is one on the steady and one on the rod that actually does the changing.
The whole remote change assembly can be removed and still leave the gearbox in but you shouldn't nne to do this if the bolt has simply come loose or fallen out,
