snorkel was created by mark1971
Just received my snorkel from this very site ( thanks Martin for the speedy delivery) and i've noticed that in the description of the snorkel on the shop website it mentions an inaccuracy with the fitting template. Is this the front screw hole being slightly out of line.?

yes it is, from what I could see any way
I held the template to the wing and it all seems ok, lines up with the air box etc
but if you hold the template to the snorkle, all the bolt fixings all line up except 1, the first bolt as you said
or the lowest bolt there is on its own, it doesnt matter if you do it wrong there is enough bolts holding it on

Yep it was the front one. I fitted it last night and drilled all the holes bar the first one, slid it on and with a bit of paint on the front bolt let it touch the car to leave the mark where the hole would need to be. Drilled the hole and it fits perfectly. I ran a thick bead of black silicone all round the back of the snorkel where it sits to the wing, tightened all the bolts up and wiped the excess silicone off as it squeezed out. Car looks mint with it on......i'm well pleased with it. The only head scratcher i have now is what happens to the water that gets in the top of the snorkel as you drive in the rain, it can only head down into the airbox ??? and i sealed up the small drain hole. When i had the top of the airbox off i loosened the clamp and slid it off the pipe that goes towards the engine and noticed a trickle of oil had been running down towards the airbox from the engine, quite thick oil.....is this normal?

Your snorkle from Martin will work the same as the TJM AIRTEC.
HOW A TJM AIRTEC SNORKLE DISPENSES RAIN WATER
Rain water drops entering the air ram of a TJM designed Snorkel at any velocity will be captured on the back of the inside curved surface, pooled around the base of the air ram and dispersing through the drain holes.
The TJM designed air ram minimizes rain water ingress through the snorkel body.
Any minute rain water droplets that may find their way into the snorkel body will be atomized by the air filter.
Finally, the last line of defence is the original water drain in the air cleaner assembly.

That kind of makes sense so i presume the slits up the snorkel head will act as the drain holes as there isn't any other holes that i can see. I thought i was being a numpty.....so should i have left the small hole in the cars airbox open as the last line of defense? I don't tend to drive upstream in 3 foot high rivers or anything like that but have driven through some deep stuff as seen by the amount of muddy residue in the airbox lower and caked to the bottom of the old air filter.

You should seal your air box drain hole with silicon sealant to ensure no water can enter the air system when using the Snorkel for real, if it's for show only just leave it open..
