Hi Mike
Can tell you what i know as just done a 16v 1600 swap on mine
Vit 16v way to go 8 valve power not much diffrence to 1300 Jimny engine
Gearbox fits with adaptor plate
Need a skinny bosch starter or a bit of grinding required to get other type to fit
N/S engine mount fits sort of
O/S you have to make
You need to fit jimny inlet manifold and will run like crap until you fit baleno injectors then will run slightly better than crap but to me is far from A1 its far to lean .
Need to swap cam and sensor pick up for jimny items.
depending on lift you may need to swap sump and pick up people say all sorts of things about cutting and welding pickup pipe i just put a sleeve over jimny 1 with a o ring groove in it to sleeve it bigger
Need to drill and tap hole in bearing cap for pick up to mount to
Exsaust wont clear engine so either have to fabricate a kick in it or get somthing bent up properly
need jimny clutch and flywheel
Think thats the main of it.
There are rumours of ECU remapping to help running problem but all a bit sketchy
I have a Pug TUD 5 1527cc that i was going to fit and to be honest wish i had its still sat in the workshop and already bolted to a Jimny box.
With all the messing about and running problems with the 16v Vit lump a 4 pot 1 wire to run Derv Pug engine sounds like heaven.
Good luck with your swap anything i can do to help inbox me.

Not sure if i am selling diesel yet rite in the middle of doing some portal axles so jimny sidelined for 2 weeks.
As regards Jimny and SJ gearbox look same to me only diffrence ive seen is jimny has a remote control for the gear lever and SJ dont but looks to me like they will swop defo bell housing the same on my early Jim Jam as i used a SJ adaptor plate to fit my 1.6 16valve.
What Diesel have you got ? reason i ask is have fitted 1.9 pug engine into SJs and found it a big heavy lump up front hence why i have gone for the 1526 106 engine.
I am looking for a 1.7 isuzu engine ex cavalier and adapting that to a jimny box rather then going the carlton gearbox route.
