Hand brake adjustment was created by myers647
Hi I took the new JImny off roading to a pay & play site last Sunday and was very pleased with its performance apart from ten minutes before we left I decided to slide it down a banking straight into a tree and bend the front bumper and bonnet but thats another story.lol
Right my question is. My hand brake was really tight and fully on with only three clicks but after off roading its now more like a dozen clicks why has this happened and how do I adjust it back to how it was.
Thanks
James

Could be 1 of 2 things. Either the adjusters etc.. are all clogged up and its not operating both shoes on the handbrake or the bearing is toast and the brake(s) are/is contaminated.
1st would be my guess, drop the wheels off and clean them out, make sure you adjust them up by hand and you'll have a good handbrake again.

Sounds like your rear drums are full of mud, that's what happened to mine.
Was it a relatively new hand brake cable? the problems I had once opening them up was that both adjusters were seized solid so had to totally strip and soak them to free them up.
also I had a seal go.

Yes this sounds about right to be honest it was really muddy so this would explain it. When you say adjust it b hand do you mean with the small ratchet type wheel on the rear drivers hub??

As a short term fix you can blast all the sh!t out and a small amount of "penetrating fluid" on the adjuster, free it off and adjust it a bit at a time with a screwdriver, this should see you sorted for a good while if you had a good handbrake before. Long term or if the adjusters won't free off pull the lot apart and clean it all up. Adjustment is the same in both cases, adjust it up with a screwdriver on the ratchet a bit at a time until you can only just get the drum on.myers647 wrote: Yes this sounds about right to be honest it was really muddy so this would explain it.
