The same button that cycles through the odometer and trip meters also dims the dashboard.

Someone with an '04 or earlier model Jimny would have to chime in. As far as I know, '05-'12 models have the same dashboard - at least here in Manila.

I checked this morning, and verified that the option to dim the dashboard lights is available when the dashboard lights are on...
