if it helps I run 215 75 15 on standard wheels on a standard Jimny (2000) with no rubbing. Kumho KL71, although I know later models have problems with it rubbing on the front bumper.

So I would have a problem fitting wheel spacers ( 32mm x 2, a la Jimnybits ) on a standard 2012 Jmny with original tyres ? Would rather not do a lift until it is out of warranty.

Yup.
Shame.
No increase on 215/75 15" as the biggest with no rubbing?

The problem is that there are no hard and fast rules.
Some tyres fit some cars without rubbing whilst the same tyres do not fit otherwise apparently identical cars.
Part of the problem is that the tyre calculations do not take into account the tread pattern and therefore the actual rolling radius of the specific brand of tyre etc.
