Spare key and immobilizer was created by Danjamin
Hi

How do i know if my jimny has an immobilizer?

Iv sat on my key and put a crack in it (the key not my bottom) my jimny is a standard  2000 jlx

I only have the one key and i need a spare cut.

I dont have any spare arms or legs so i think im in trouble if it is immobilized as i don't fancy taping the old key under the cowling.

Cheers

DaNjamin

Hi mate my Jimny has an immobilizer as I found out when I snapped my key a bit back and the spare did not have a transponder in it. I still have not got a replacement key so I have to use the two of them together to start the car.

Don't lose the key with the transponder as it will cost more to get replacements.

My local cobbler said he could dig the chip out of the old key and fit it to the new blank. Otherwise it was 45 quid for a whole new key and chip.

Get the spare key cut and try and start it. If it wont start and the little red engine light flashes, there is an immobiliser.

Don't despair, just attach the broken key to the new one on the ring and it will work, because the immobiliser reads the chip in the old key.

Don't try and dig it out, if it breaks there will be tears

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)
