Advice needed on gearbox was created by Luke jimny
Hi, i have a V reg jimny and the syncro mesh is out on the gearbox. (I have to be gentle going from 3rd into 2nd otherwise i get a nice crunch sound ) I have been told that it would be easier and cheaper just to change the gearbox rather than sort out the syncro mesh but i can only find gearboxes from later models which have the timing chain dohc engines. Am i right in thinking that these gearboxes will not fit on my jimny with its sohc cambelt engine?
Any suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated

I'm not sure about the interchangability of gearboxes but I make you right in it being cheaper to get a 2nd hand box than to get your one fixed.
Call Darren at KAP as he swaps bits from one Jimny to another all the time and may have a box for you if you are near to him.
Another place to get a box from if you are up Yorkshire way would be CAM Suzuki via their ebay shop, but having read some bits on them and had experience of slow delievery, if you are close enough, I would go and collect one from them.
You can see if you are getting the right thing too, especially if you take your old one with you for comparison, they are not that big and heavy!

Thanks mate. Luckily i've already found a 2nd hand gearbox with a low mileage and i'll be getting it fitted in next week or so along with a new clutch and clutch cable so happy days
I live in wiltshire so getting to cam suzuki will be bit of a trek lol.
This is my 2nd jimny, (should never have sold the 1st one) and i've had it a month now so there's a big list of things i want to do with it but i think getting the maintainance done 1st is more important than modifying. Will post some pictures of it in due time, probably when i'm on salisbury plains with my mate who bought my 1st jimny off me lol.
Thanks again.
