Has anyone fitted remote start to a Jimny? was created by Bigchridy
I've been fitting a Hawk alarm + remote start to the Jimny today. The alarm came with all the fitting instructions including the relevant wires and locations on the Jimny. I had a look at these before Christmas and thought that it looked pretty easy to wire up!
I'm a techi anyway so usually pretty good with wiring (altho I've never fitted an alarm) but the remote start side of things has blagged me!!!
At the moment the Jimny is wired so the alarm system is working but the remote start is not. I cant get my head round how to wire up the immobiliser relay. Also it asks you to take a feed from the tachometer so the control unit knows when the engine is running.
Has anyone fitted an alarm like this before? If so have you got any tips on how to wire up the immobiliser relay? And did you have to go into the engine bay for the tachometer wire or did you find it under the dash?
Lastly if anyone has any wiring diagrams for the Jimny or knows where to get one from please let me know!
Cheers

no idea what yr your jimny is on the older model it has a chip in the key place key on top of cowling and try remote starting if this works simply tape spare key inside cowling (not ideal or would be my choice)used to use same method on fords yrs ago
sure on the later model of jimny the key talk`s to the ecu and would be quite hard to get it to work

Right I've been looking at a lot of wiring diagrams today and I've worked out how to wire the immobiliser relay into the Jimny.
I'm still having problems locating the tachometer wires behind the dash. Anyone any ideas?
rjd1: My Jimny is a 2002 model. I'm not sure about having to fit the immobiliser chip to the ignition barrel as there are no meantions of this in the fitting instructions. However once I have the alarm wired up correctly, if the remote start is still not working I will def give it a go.
I used to have a clifford alarm on one of my old cars and when they came to wire it in they took the spare key and placed it on the ignition barrel to fool the ecu. If I can get away without doing this I will be much happier!
