The Jimny doesn't have a centre diff so if you drive on good grippy tarmac in four wheel drive you'll cause the tyres to scrub (at best) or the transmission to wind up. You should be fine on snow and ice, and I suppose you'd be fine in a straight line dry tarmac too.
Driving on road in 4wd is fine if you have the need too i.e. less tracton like mud snow ice. I have bought a sj where the guy before drove every where in 4wd :pinch: the whole drive train was worn out and noisy and loose.
Just back from Aviemore where I tested 4WD up some snowy roads, and found it was working afterall although vacuum HUBS still played up a couple of times
I just assumed that even on tarmac (in a straight bit of road), putting the Jimny in 4WD for a short test, I would feel the difference.
Time to look for some manual HUBS.....any idea what these should cost (with the spacer)
Hubs usually cost about £45 but the spacers you will have to buy seperate 99% of the time at £25 as these dont come with the hubs...they are an adapter to fit the hubs to a jimny
bits4vits do brand new hubs and spacers as a package. Not as cheap as finding second hand ones but saves you the trouble of trying to find 2nd hand ones...
