Rear brakes was created by grumpy22
Getting everything sorted now and it's time to look at the brake pedal travel which I think is excessive

Going to have a look at the rear brake adjustment. Is in manual or auto adjust? Is the mechanism likely to seize? Any pitfalls ?

Cheers

It is auto adjust.

Except it usually doesn't

My left hand one works, but the right hand doesn't.
There is nothing wrong, missing, loose, tight, seized, upside down, backwards it just doesn't adjust.

Works fine without the drum on I can see the adjuster click round if someone carefully pushes the brake.

Anyway, there is a spring pulling down a lever on one shoe, and a screw expander between the shoes at the top.
If the shoes move too far, by some inexplicable miracle the screw adjuster thing stays still and allows the spring to pull the lever down rotating the expander one click.
The expander fork has a ridge in it that may have something to do with the miracle, but my miracle seems to have run out :(

Edit

According to the book, it adjusts when you have 30kg on the brake pedal whilst standing still.

I wonder if mine doesn't work because the handbrake cable is too tight on that side and stopping the expander doing its miracle?

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)
