Lifted Jimny steering alignment. was created by Nobby22
Hi all

Just wanted to get people veiws and experience on having the tracking done on a lifted Jimny. I had it done when i first lifted it but at the time we didnt adjust the panhard rods to get the axle in the centre. So now i have centred the axle i need the tracking done again.
Anyway, the reason why i ask is because the two garages i have been to both say "well we can get it roughly right but because its lifted we wont be able to get it right". TBH i dont mind as long as the steering wheel is level when i am driving but i was wondering how/if you can get the tracking "right" on a lifted Jimny? Or any other lifted 4x4 for that matter. I saw on "A 4x4 is born" he shows you how to do it but do you need a new set of specs ( i dont no what you would call them) for a lifted car. You must be able to do it, mustn't you?

Cheers

Nobby

Dose the car pull to one side?
if not dont mess with it just take the stearing wheel off and re-centre it.
most inportant is that you do the caster correction so the axle is in the correct position and the car will drive as it should and the stearing will still self centre

Dont take the steering wheel off to align it, use the adjuster on the bar under the front

No you don't need new specs to get it right very few places use the specs they just lock the steering wheel central and even up the wheel front to back then side to side. As long as the axle is sitting were it should be it should not be to hard to set up if the guy doing knows what he is doing. Both my vit and jimny are lift and both drive with the steering wheel central but I did have the luxury of a £10,000 4wa computer and the time to do it myself
