Hi guys, i know there have been posts about this before but none of them relate directly to the problem i have got. Basically the tail light fuse blows every time you turn the side lights on. i have checked all the wires i can see under/behind the dash, under the bonnet, behind the rear passenger door card and in the rear bumper. All of it looks fine. i have fitted a new indicator/light stalk unit behind the steering wheel as the old one was falty. Anyone got any other ideas? for some annoying reason i cant find a single wiring digram that i can download.

cheers

Its shorting somewhere. Mine did it where i had put the towbar on and there was some slack in the wiring, it had melted on the exhaust and would short out once hot.

Its apparently quite common for the wires to wear through behind the rear light cluster where it goes into the body.

I hate electrical problems, good luck with the cable chasing!

Black Jimny's don't get stuck!

Did this problem start when the new switch was fitted?
Or did you fit the switch because of the problem.
What was the last thing you did before the problem started?

I had a problem when I fitted a new bulb once. Turned out the bulb was 6V, just blew the fuse, rather than the bulb.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Thanks for the replies guys, i bought the car with the problem so its not a result of something i have done. Even with the front lights unplugged and the rear bumper disconnected (electrically) it still blows the fuse, that makes me think it isnt a bulb or any of the bumper wiring.
