Rear wheel bearing lifespan

Rear wheel bearing lifespan was created by saxj
What is the typical lifespan for rear wheel bearings?
My Jimny is nearly 3 years old and has 76000KM on it. I've had bigger tyres (stock rims) on for the last 25000km.
Both rear wheel bearings are shot, and Suzuki South Africa is refusing to fix it under warranty, saying its normal wear and tear.

im at just under 47000 miles (about the same 76000km ish) and still on the factory everything! and only just changed from the factory tyres which all had loads of life left in them... at least another 12k
Front brake pads are nearly finished, new ones are sat waiting to be fitted.
I personally wouldn't expect to see bearings go this early on!

Thats a really good life span from a set of bearings on a Jimny, it seems a reasonable response from the garage to me.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

No warranty will ever cover anything that wears out
They cannot predict the lifetime, because you could have got them wet, or carried something heavy in the back of the car.
As they are not a great deal of trouble to change, I'd simply change them out and feel bad about suzuki aftercare, then take every opportunity to tell people about it. (The English way, never complain, just accept and moan to everyone :silly: )
Having said that, I wouldn't expect wheel bearings to go at such a low mileage in a normal car.....

We took our 1999 Jimny from new to 99,000 miles and all the wheelbearings were still OK.
