hello there! was created by lucy
I have been surfing/scouring your site for the last 6 months since buying a 1999 JLX 1.3 L Jimny. I have had some probIems. Still have with missing at speed, but have had the cam position sensor replaced and no longer have start up problems. I really enjoy the discussions and knowlege shared and these have helped me to learn a bit. I bought an Owners Manual but haven't managed to get a Service manual yet- very expensive to buy on disc from Suzuki. After reading tonight I wonder if the prob could be with a blocked catalyst, or another sensor. She starts up well, runs well, idles well, is fairly reliable but around 80 km -not always mind, but often- will miss, causing the revs needle to bounce up and down. Has been test-drived at garages and doesn't play up and also serviced. This site is a great forum, I dont know a lot about the Jimny yet, but I will, I wanted this car!

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationJimny manuals on disc generally retail for around $3-$4 on ebay here in Oz so I wouldn't expect it to be any more in the UK.

Here is one for $4.95...

You can test a catalytic convertor by using heat sensitive crayon from speed shop. They melt at specific temp and will tell you if your convertor is damaged by the temp they melt at. Instructions come with the crayons. No need to dismantle, they crayon goes on the outside of convertor.

While we are talking about Cats, they are available in different densities of the inside brick. Larger hole ones allow more free flowing of the gases and that is what I substituted for my original one. A worthwhile investment if you want to cruise around in the Territory all day at 130kph. :)

Here is an England CAT specialist who has standard (400 cells per sq inch) cats and sports cats (200 cells per sq inch).

www.sportcats.co.uk/

I had a 100 cells per sq inch cat fitted, along with sports headers and 2" exhaust with flow-through muffler. My Jimny Fastback is a very nippy little beast ;)

Most intermittent vehicle faults come down to sensors mis-reading one way or another. It could be the cat, but I'd say more likely sensors.

The good news is it's rarely the sensor itself, most often the connection to it.

Before you replace anything (else?) pull apart every connector you can find. Spray contact cleaner inside, then fill it with petroleum jelly before reconnecting.

You'd be surprised how often this fixes problem vehicles.

When you are doing this, remember earth terminals to the body / chassis - these can cause some of the most mysterious faults!

Once I have a manual and can properly locate the sensors, I will check the connectors and earth terminals. I assume the petroleum jelly keeps dirt out?? Thanks.
