Introduction & ? about Lights on roof of Soft top was created by scrappybill
Hi All,
I,ve Had a Jimny a while now- - well a few months anyway !!
Picked it up cheap from ebay,
I've Had a few probs with it, :- head gasket went a few weeks after buying it,
But its all sorted now. managed to get away with a new gasket- oil and filter- head has been changed at some stage in the last few months - before i bought it, but who evert did it didn't do it properly, the gasket was damaged on number 3 piston. head was bang on all within .0003" so no need for a skim.
A few pics enclosed !!
I have owned 4x4's for a while,
Had 3 Suzuki's inc this one.
An N Plate- last of the kind Samurai- SJ413, lifted, big leafs, big tyres (31's) winch etc
And an older heavily modded Santana- SJ410 Had an 1.8l Twin cam engine with massive carbs, SPOA, massive Tyres,(37's) !! and a custom Gearbox for the 1.8L in bright orange !!
I've also got A Pajero Evolution in Rare - Manual, I have used to go off road, (Loads of fun )
And A Yank Tank Mustang Cobra 5.0l 400bhp Beast !!
But now its the Jimnys turn for a Few mods.
But would like to keep the original look of bumpers etc, I dont plan on proper off roading it like i used to with the others- just Green lanes and tracks.
my 1st Mod was the Headlights- just a simple aftermarket xenon conversion,
Then some tidy Sounds- ripped out the tiny 4 1/2" in the front kick panels, and stuffed in some 5 1/2" components with the tweeters on the front pillars , also ripped out all the rear interior to get at the rear speaker holes that are by the bottom of the seat belts just in front of the rear seats.
I managed to get some good quality 5 1/2" 3 ways in there also. (No amps- and same Sony head unit)
Then the interior lights,
I fitted a 3 led. festoon in the cab light, Wired up some 2x38 led / side for the rear lights, & also a 48 led silicon strip in above the sun visors, on the rubber seal between the roof and the canvas for the soft top, all connected up to the main cab light (All very low power as led's).
I then replaced all the snap/pop fasteners for the rear soft top for something called lift the dot fasteners, Massive difference and a real solid design- also looks ok, not some cheesy half cut repair for the common fault of the snap/pop fasteners that break on Suzuki's
I have just fitted a pair of spots in the bottom bumper section where the cut outs are for fogs,
with a 2 x lamp fitment, for either side lights or as I'm going to wire them- Daylight running lights.
It was an excellent kit from the net- a company called bling in the states it was around £40 for everything inc loom and switch and blue lights- and 55w spots- (They are actually fogs).(I swapped the blue side lights for Led super bright 501's and the H3- 55w for some super bright 130w's)
I'll put up a few pics as I go along (I have taken 100's of each mod as i do it !!)
Whilst i had the bumper off i though i could get a winch in there quite nicely, So i will work on that tomorrow , I would also like to fit a roof bar for lights, But have never seen a soft top with them ?
Can it be done- or has anyone of you guys done it- or seen it been done.
I also managed to get a spare set of Alloys for doing the lanes- they a 15x 8's my plan is to get a set of good MT's around 235/75's for them, and lift the body etc to get to fit, I'll lift the body 1st to see how much room i'll gain- but i dont want to cut bumpers etc if i can help it so i mat settle for less height.
I'll keep the Brdigestones (205/70) or the wheels i have for everyday road use)
I'm an electrical engineer by trade- and also install low to very high end ICE in cars- 4x4's Vans etc.
I have fitted systems of up to £17k in vehicles, so if anyone needs to know anything about ICE, electrics or electronics etc , i'll try my best to answer.
Looking fwd to finding out about the roof lights on my Soft top.
Cheers

Sounds great, glad you sorted the HG nice and easy, I havent seen roof lights on a soft top before so be interested to see your solution.
I was thinking a roof rack like the old SJ design would be good for mounting lights and offering some protection to the soft top.
The same roof rack fitted to my Polo with lights

Eyup mate . Iv also got a Jimny but it's got the removable hard top front and back. The only way I think to mount roof lights is either a stick on light pod which could be mounted on the middle section of the roof or a gutterless roof bar. These are both on eBay . Light pod is about £100 and the light bar is around £50. Hope this has helped . Let me know what you come up with.
Thanks james
