hi guys been trying to find out info on fitting 31/10//15's
on my jimny wanted to know how it will effect gearing and clutch.
i got 215/15's on there and iv already noticed a small difference when pulling off and long steep hills.

3" Trailmaster lift with 1.5 Spacers on front
Customised winch bumper and roll cage
235/85R16 Maxxis Bighorns on 16" Rims, 4:1 Rocklobster, Rear ARB locker and on-board air
Corrected arms all-round, rear disks, Recaro seats and harnesses

Well mine has 235/75 R15 tyres on it which are just under 30" in diameter.
I have also got a "TrialJimny" gearset installed in my transfer case.
In my opinion the larger tyres quite seriously affect the gearing. Even with the trialjimny gearset installed the gearing is not quite low enough for good off-roading and yet it still runs out of steam at 60MPH with the engine at high revs on the road.
I know Ash (on www.jimny.se ) runs 31's (or near to 31's) on a standard geared Jimny and if I remeber correctly he is not happy with the gearing.
The other problem, which is less serious, is that the speedo etc. is affected. As it is electronically fed from a sensor on the output of the transfer box you should put an electronic correction unit in to sort it out if you want the speedo to read correctly.

Just followed a link in Martins signature from a post on Difflock.
Baz, I have also been following some of your posts over on Bonkas and see you are off to STRATE FLORIDA this Sunday. My parents live in Wales and I will be down this weekend, although won't be able to come out as it is my Dads birthday.
Baz, I sent you a PM (on Bonkas) sbout your Jimny. Interested in the tyres you are currently running (215 75 15). I'm on 205 75 15's and thinking about going to the 215's. I do a lot of road mileage and I am worried about buggering up the fuel consumption and performance if i went to the 215's. Any comments.

I Mainly hangout on Jimny.se forum and occasionally on Difflock and have will now keep an eye on this forum as well as the Bonkas one.

i got 215/80/15 on mine at the minute and fuel consumption has dropped, probably to bout 30mpg, ive just fitted a 2+1/2" lift from rhino ray, and pro comp es1000 shocks. when standard had to trim the arches for the tyres to fit, so wouldnt recomend this size without a lift, if u fancy joinin bonkas and coming out for some off roading would be great m8, as most of them got land rovers and i get a lot of stick. lol. even tho my jimny follows theyre landys everywhere.

Really wished I could come out on Sunday, but as it is my dads birthday and he has not been well, I better give it a miss. Not come across 215 80s on Jimny's before, it usually the 215 75's that get fitted and from what i read they seem to fit as long as you have enough offset on the wheels. My Alloys have 15mm offset which will probably be enough. What wheels are you running?
I'm starting to think that for my use, perhaps the 205 75's might be best to stick with. Going up to 215 75's will give me an extra half inch clearence but performance; fuel consumption and the clutch will suffer.
I'll keep an eye on the Bonkas site and see if I can come along on another trip.

I ran 215/80-15's on my Jimny for about 2 years, on * spokes which only just clear the track rod end and catch on the rim mounted balance weights. The gearing realy wasn't happy on 215/80's, with 5th all but redundant and long hills on motorways needing 3rd at times. I fitted a Trial Jimny kit and in high box the engin was probably over reving on the 215's. I'm now on 31's and gearing is a lot more usable both on and off road - more than happy with it. I'm running Kuhmo LT71's at the moment.
