As mentioned in the Pea Farm thread, my tyres are abismal in the mud. The reason I sold my old muds was that I was sick of having to change tyres over every time I wanted to go off road. Now the Cooper AT's have done a sterling job....in the dry and in the snow but mud they really cannot. A dilemma then - get a cheap, probably quite extreme set and go back to swapping or invest in a better all round tyre. I do 90% road work with a fair number of motorway miles so need something that'll behave on the road and do well in mud. Am I after the impossible?

i think it depends on how often you use it offroad but if you do quite a few road miles i personaly would get a set of extreme muds to swap over when you need them & use your at's for the road miles

ive got extreme tyres on at min & im on the look out for a set of tyres for the road mile as its my daily driver as well as my offroad toy

Thats what i'm thinking - when they wear out maybe I'll get a better all round set.

maybe try the hankook muds, decent price.

Mine are fine on the road, try them if you like but they arnt cheap. think a half decent set of muds will be fine on road though. I dont feel like i want to have road tyres and muds, quite happy with them as allrounders.

Wouldnt go for another set of all terrains though :-)

I've got a set of cooper discoverer stt's on my disco and the are really good in the mud. But like you I use the disco as my daily driver and it spends most of its time on the road. These have been on a year now and have not really lost much tread, I'd say 2-3mm per tyre. Not bad considering I've done 10000+ miles and done some motorway trips.

Anyway when I get the jimny on the road I was gonna go for special tracks but now I'm thinking of getting something similar to the stt's as I want something that will last. I had a set of sahara's before the stt's and they were horrendously noisy and they wore down too quickly on the road!

This is the disco with the stt's!!!

Yeah they do look good and not badly priced. They do the discoverer stt's in 235/75 R15 which is the size I'm after. Still cant decide tho!:(

Need to find out how quickly special tracks wear out!

Are the special tracks rough on road though? Or is yours a weekend toy so you can get away with it....

Special tracks can get exciting on the road if its wet

I think Kirkynut has the Kuhmos and reckons they are good on road as well as on mud
