Chassis Rust 2007 Jimny

Hello dear Jimny enjoyers,

I recently purchased a 2007 Jimny for less than 3k Euros in the Balkans. I however, didn't do my due diligence when it comes to checking for rust.. (stupid ik).
Before I start looking for places that would even consider that kind of job, I wanted to get your opinion as to whether my case is even worth the repairs.

This is one of those questions that is almost impossible to answer. The problem is that what you are looking at could just as easily be a bit of old chassis protection peeling off as much as it could be the actual chassis coming apart. Unfortunately until you dig into the surface and start stripping away you don't know it could literally be nothing or it could be fatal. Personally I'd throw time and money at finding out and fixing it but I would also like the time and money to save every jimny still in existence because I'm strange like that.

I recently embarked on the same, although only paid 300 for equivalent scrap price. 

I spent 800 on welding, plus MoT few other bits to get on the road. I hoped that would be it, but then i found the wheel wobble was caused by old mis-shapened tyres, so new tyres and balancing, the air con wasnt working, so re-gassed and then found wont turn off, so needs bypassing. The hydraulic pipes to the 4WD system have corroded off and when I booked it in to have gearbox oil and diff oil replaced, the garage got it up on the ramp and said they werent confident the sump plugs would come off without a serious fight and that its a basket case under there! Their suggestion was not to spend any more money on it and keep running as it is, until it doesnt any more.

That said, I am still pleased i did it, I enjoy driving it, but I expect it will continue to cost money or reach the point that spending the money doesnt make sense and it gets scrapped. I hope to get a year or 2 max out of it.
