If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

As Fordem suggests, and since it is "off road converted" it is most likely for an air activated differential lock on the rear axle.
Have a look for air pipes going into the front of the rear differential.
There could be a front one too, but most people get by with just the rear and some semblance if steering at the front.
