Master cylinder replacement was created by Barnes
The master cylinder reservoir is leaking on my jimny. It’s a 2001 non abs m13a. I have a replacement with the servo etc.
My question is should I replace the servo as well or should I try to separate the new reservoir from the cylinder and replace just that?
Im a driveway novice but I would like to try to fix it myself!!
Many thanks for any help!

I'd replace the master cylinder only...

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

I'd try and replace the reservoir seals that are leaking if I could get them- then there is no bleeding or messing about under the car required
Otherwise, assuming we are talking about a second hand unit, I'd swap only the cylinder as it just detaches without the need to mess around in the footwell trying to disconnect the pedal- plus there is no guarantee that the "new" servo works and you know that yours does.

Yep that’s exactly what I thought, I think it is the reservoir seals that are leaking. Do you know how I can get to them? There is some sort of pin I think securing it but I don’t want to butcher it getting it off if there is a specific way to remove it??
Thanks for your help!

It's what is known as a "roll pin" (it's made of rolled spring steel) and it can be tapped out with a pin punch, which is essentially a cylindrical punch narrow enough to fit through the hole the pin is in.
If you don't have a pin punch small enough, find a suitable nail and grind the pointed tip off, you don't want to drive a pointed object into the roll pin (it's hollow) and spread it.
You might be able to grab it with a pair of nippers and pull it out.

Ah brilliant, thanks so much for the advice! Hopefully that will make it a much easier job, it looked like a bit of a mare to get up under the dash and change the whole mechanism.
